Awahto lives at home with her mother, her brother and two sisters. Her father died recently.
She helps her mother by collecting firewood. Awahto's family is entirely dependant on their small herd of animals for survival. At best, her family's diet most likely consists of a cup of milk and a bowl of gruel each per day. Awahto receives a balanced meal at school every day.
Awahto is noted by her teachers as being above average academically and her best subject at school is Mathematics. She attends church and Sunday school and likes skipping rope with her friends.
