At home, Mahindi helps her mother by collecting firewood. Her family is destitute, owning fewer than 10 camels, goats, cows or sheep and having no source of monetary income. Her family's diet most likely consists of a cup of milk and a bowl of gruel each per day. Mahindi receives a balanced meal at school every day.
